As lovers of creative Yorkshire wedding photography we are super excited by the opening of River Mills Ballroom – an awesome new wedding venue we have been excited to be involved with in our very own hometown of Selby (near York)! Just a stone throw up the street from the Tux & Tales HQ, we just can’t wait to shoot our next wedding at this exciting new venue and here’s why!
River Mills Ballroom Wedding Photography – A Building Full of History
River Mills Ballroom truly is a special venue. From humble beginnings as a mill, over the years River Mills Ballroom has had an exciting history. After a brief stint as a roller-disco in the 80’s, River Mills Ballroom was eventually converted into a wedding and performance venue, re-opening in 2016. So much care and attention has gone into revitalizing the building and recalling this rich and eclectic history. All the magic of the theatre is in the air as you walk through the beautifully renovated ballroom. While the rejuvenated (and original) brickwork, fireplaces and box office all add to the charm and allure of this unique space.

As wedding photographers who specialize in fun and creative Yorkshire wedding photography we are thrilled by the amazing photographic opportunities River Mills Ballroom has to offer. The grand staircase with its awesome, funky tropical wallpaper makes for a stunning backdrop and is super-fun. You just can’t seem to turn a corner in this building without discovering another new and exciting space to photograph in. Beautiful light floods into the rooms creating amazing silhouettes and fantastic reflections on the polished floors. More romantic moments look fantastic in front of the original brick fireplace and there are even some glorious industrial details for us to play with and create photos with a bit more attitude! Some venues you can just return to time and time again and they’re always fresh and exciting – River Mills really has it all and is an exceptional space for Yorkshire wedding photography.
River Mills Ballroom has a multipurpose room and a secondary studio. The studio has an original brick fireplace and is the perfect space for ceremonies.
River Mills Ballroom’s Grand Ballroom
Oh and did I mention the ballroom? River Mills Ballroom (as the name might suggest) comes with its very own full size ballroom and it’s big – very big! With a standing capacity of 300 (150 seated), River Mills Ballroom really can handle weddings of any size. The ballroom is the perfect blank canvas space for couples wanting to really express their individual personality and tastes. The most amazing light (provided by windows that run the length of the ballroom) floods this room – really bringing the outside, inside on those warm summer days. One end of the Ballroom is occupied by a permanent stage – just perfect for a band/DJ to set up for some awesome party antics.

Couple all of this with owners and staff that are some of the nicest, loveliest and most helpful individuals you’ll ever meet (we might be a bit biased on this one!) and you can see that it’s no wonder that we are so excited about River Mills Ballroom. We love wedding photography (especially Yorkshire wedding photography) and we just can’t wait for our next photographic adventure at this fantastic venue!
