About Villa Farm & York Barn
Villa Farm is a fantastic collection of holiday cottages situated just 4 miles from the centre of York. Villa Farm consists of 15 acres of private countryside land and includes a private lake and paddock.
York Barn at Villa Farm offers both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies so rain or shine, you will have loads of options of where to put a ring on it! In 2018, the family owned business converted one of their barns to become their very own premier wedding venue – York Barn.
However, Villa Farm has been hosting weddings for many years before York Barn opened its doors including filed site hire for tipi and marquee style weddings. This means that their kind, caring and dedicated staff are also super experienced in how to make sure you have a fun and chilled out wedding day.
One of the most fantastic aspects of Villa Farm (apart from the amazing York Barn!) is that you can have your whole day there – from prep in the morning, to party at night and even an after-party soak in the jacuzzi outside of your cottage. I mean, wedding + jacuzzi = best wedding venue in York.

As York based wedding photographers, we have a long history with Villa Farm and York Barn and we were lucky enough to get to photograph some fantastic tipi weddings with them before they opened the doors on York Barn.
We have been so excited to see them go from strength to strength as they open more cottages and make continual improvements to even the littlest details of their venue.

Couple’s PortraitsOne of the best parts of photographing a wedding photography at Villa Farm is the enormous variety of locations for couples photos in and around the grounds.
We can use the lake, the pergola, the paddock, the tree lined avenue and even the buildings themselves. Every time we photograph a wedding at Villa Farm we are able to find some new little nook or corner that we never saw before.
And with such lush grounds, there is so much variety from one season to another.
Wedding Ceremonies
Wedding CeremoniesAnother great part of photographing weddings at Villa Farm is that you have your choice of lovely ceremony locations.
If the weather is behaving itself, you can enjoy the gorgeous garden pergola for your wedding ceremony or if the weather is playing up, you can choose to get married inside York Barn.
Group Photographs
Group PhotographsVilla Farm has a lot of options when it comes to group shots which, as a Villa Farm York wedding photographer, I find to be a complete joy.
Depending on weather, we can use the paddock, the pergola, the tree-lined avenue or even York Barn itself.
We will have plenty of choice in this gorgeous venue because there are so many trees available to create some nice open shade so your guests aren’t staring into the sun or even provide a bit of protection for outdoor photographs in light rain
Wedding Breakast & Catering
Wedding Breakast & CateringYork Barn is able to accommodate up to 150 guests for the wedding breakfast and they work with some of the best caterers in the business including Yorkshire’s own Hog & Apple. Who says wedding food can’t taste like a Michelin starred restaurant? At the back of the barn is located their well-stocked bar which is capable of serving guests from both an indoor bar and a patio bar for outside guests.
Wedding Speeches
As a wedding photographer, I must say that speeches are such a hoot to photograph and the simple, open layout in York Barn makes it easy to have a clear shot of the speakers as well as the wedding guests. Some of our favourite room layouts include a long table situated across from the huge glass doors. This creates the perfect amount of light to get great photos as well as an easy aspect to photograph each of the people sitting near the couple.
Guest Entertainment
Guest EntertainmentThe large paddock is the perfect location for wedding couples to entertain friends and family and the staff at Villa Farm can give you excellent direction when selecting your entertainment.
We have photographed so many different fun guest activities through the years from sack races to mini golf and even a bit of ping pong!
Reception & First Dance
Reception & First DanceThere are so many layout options for your evening reception and first dance at your Villa Farm wedding. Since the layout of the room is so flexible, you can have a DJ table in the corner or even in the centre of the room, depending on your wedding breakfast layout. One of my favourite aspects of the evening receptions in York Barn at Villa Farm is the covered veranda.
Couples can open the doors in the afternoon or evening and let the party spill out into the night with little fear of rain. This indoor/outdoor approach to the party means that the venue can hold up to 220 evening guests without feeling over crowded.

Barn Wedding Photography at Villa Farm
York Barn
This rectangular barn is the main attraction at Villa Farm and is a perfect mix of rustic charm and modern sensibilities. From the wagon wheel light fixtures to the exposed wooden beams and brickwork, you will really get a sense of the history of this unique space. And let’s not forget that gorgeous wood floor and the one of a kind wooden farmhouse tables they offer to their wedding couples. York Barn is the perfect DIY wedding venue with clean, white walls and a very open floorplan so you can go wild with ideas.
As a Villa Farm wedding photographer, I have to say I love the versatility of York Barn. We have photographed weddings of all sizes, from intimate gatherings where the wedding couple converted part of the space into a chill-out zone, to large affairs complete with singing waiters and table dancing. This wedding barn can do it all!
Minster Lodge & the Cottages
One of the most amazing features of weddings at Villa Farm is the easy access to plentiful onsite accommodation of an extremely high standard. Frequently, the entire wedding party will stay overnight at the Minster Lodge. This two storey lodge can sleep up to a whopping 16 people and has a huge dine-in kitchen perfect for hair and makeup preparations in the morning. And again, let’s not forget to mention the jacuzzi…. a perfect ending to an amazing day.
In total, there are 13 cottages available at Villa Farm so you will have plenty of choices available for you and your guests. As a wedding photographer at York Barn weddings, I just love how much livelier the dance floor is when guests know they don’t need to drive home at the end of the night.

How to find Villa Farm
At the roundabout at the junction of Wigginton Road and A1237, head north. Continue north for about 1/4mi and on the right hand side you will see a sign for Villa Farm. The sign can be a bit easy to miss but look for the cottages which will be backed up to the road.

York Barn Travel & Parking
Parking is generous and available on site in the designated parking area near York Barn as well as nearby selected cottages. Villa Farm is a rural location so there is no local train service, but this stunning venue is located just 4 miles from York where it would be easy to catch a taxi.
They are both really warm and chilled and exactly the kind of people we wanted to have their on our wedding day.
